  1. PAN - Pan Asian Network

Following on from the Networking the Pacific Meeting in Victoria, B.C. - May last year, Maria Ng Lee Hoon of the IDRC Singapore Office is currently investigating ways in which a web site can be created for publications of Papua New Guinea publishers on PAN. This will cover most of the publishers mentioned in the story on the Australian Book Fair.

  2. IDRC International Publishing Partnerships (IPP) programme

Currently attempts are being made to improve the University of Papua New Guinea Press. The Canadian International Development Agency is supporting an International Publishing Partnerships (IPP) programme and it is felt that this might be a way forward.

This involves linking with a Canadian publisher and the initiative must come from that publisher. Contacts with the project administrator has meant that our letter has been forwarded to the Canadian Association of University Presses. If any publishers in Canada would like to be involved and has the capacity it could prove an useful collaboration on both sides.

Further details on progress (or the lack of it) from your correspondent!
