News and Announcements

Many things have happened between our Christmas 1995 launch and this second issue. The Provenance News area will give you a brief update of news regarding this magazine. This area is under construction and we will be putting up more announcements about other organizations and events over the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience.

Position Available

News Editor for ONLINE, DATABASE, and ONLINE USER magazines.

Responsibility to produce newspages (4-6 magazine pages) for ONLINE (bimonthly) and DATABASE (bimonthly); also for ONLINE USER magazine (3-4 magazine pages, bimonthly).

Requires monitoring of all developments in traditional online, Internet, and consumer online industries, plus CD-ROM, hardware, software industries as they relate to research/information applications. Newspages are compiled from excerpted press releases, supplemented with information from followup calls, and first-hand, researched stories about industry events and announcements.

Applicant must have:

  • previous professional online search experience (2+ years)
  • familiarity with all levels of online/Internet industry
  • ability to track all industry events and experience in judging important
  • news
  • experience in interpreting developments and writing for OL/DB audience
  • capability to monitor Internet and online news sources
  • receive faxed and mailed press releases
  • availability during business hours to make inquiries and follow-up phone calls
  • must meet firm deadlines with complete, full copy
  • excellent analysis and writing skills
  • ability to work off-site in office equipped with email, fax, Internet access

This is a part-time, independent position, probably requiring about 10-15/hours/week, but varying depending on deadlines.

    • Lots of encouraging and critical e-mail about our first issue! We are reminded about the wide number of platforms people use to access our site.
    • Our Home page "look and feel" has been redesigned by team of advisors and users, in addition, we are working to make browsing within the pages more fluid.
